Attacks an area of enemies around the caster. DEX determines cast time while ASPD determines the delay. During the cast time of Brandish Spear, the knight's DEF is reduced by 1/3.

The area of effect increases in range at skill levels 4, 7, and 10. The maximum damage of the skill is inflicted on targets nearest to the knight (up to 500% ATK to those in the red area), decreasing the further away they are (with green being the furthest away and having only a 300% ATK bonus).

Information

  • Requires the player to be wielding a Spear.
  • Requires the player to be mounted on a Pecopeco.
  • Requires a targeted enemy to determine direction, but the area of effect is based on the position of the player.
  • Knock-back does not occur during War of Emperium.
  • The player's weapon cannot be Divested while casting. The player cannot change weapons during this time, and attempts by enemies to divest or break the weapon will fail (Full Divestment can still succeed on other equipment).

Comparison with Bowling Bash

Brandish Spear is one of two area skills that knights can obtain, the other being Bowling Bash. Brandish Spear costs half as much as Bowling Bash but also does half the damage. Bowling Bash can be used with any weapon whereas Brandish Spear requires the knight be mounted and wielding a spear. Brandish Spear has a larger radius than Bowling Bash (5x5 instead of 3x3) and the mechanics of each skill are different, with Brandish generally being the easier of the two to use.

Knights oriented towards PvM generally prefer Bowling Bash over Brandish Spear simply due to it's larger damage.

In PvP/WoE situations, Knights may desire to spread status effects instead of deal damage. Brandish Spear has a larger area of effect making it better suited for this purpose, but is still generally eschewed in favour of Bowling Bash's superior damage.
