Phen Switching Guide
Overview and explanation
Overview
"Phen switching" refers to a technique where you swap equipment in order to benefit from an uninterruptible cast, without having to suffer through the increased cast time. Whether farming solo, duo, or in a party, phen switching is an essential tool for any caster class to learn (especially Wizards!).
What grants the "phen" effect?
Before getting into how to do phen switching, it's important to know all the (currently implemented) equipment/cards that grant the effect.
Cards:
- Phen Card (Skill casting cannot be interrupted. Increase Casting Time by 25%)
- Bloody Butterfly Card (Skill casting cannot be interrupted. Increase Casting Time by 30%. Inflict 5% more damage with Fire Wall.)
Equipment Sets:
- Morpheus's Hood (Magic spells cannot be interrupted. Increase Casting Time by 25%. MDEF + 11, Maximum SP + 20%, INT + 5)
(The above effect requires the Morpheus's Shawl, Morpheus's Ring and Morpheus's Bracelet equipped along with the hood in order to be activated)
How do you phen switch?
To phen switch, start your cast (for example Storm Gust) without any of the above item effects equipped, and then once your cast has begun quickly swap to one of the items. You will need to hotkey both the item with the phen effect (e.g., a phen carded Clip [1]) and anything else that occupies the same equipment slot (like a Rosary or Earring). When done correctly, this results in a normal cast time (because none of the phen effect items were equipped at the time), while still being protected by the phen effect (after equipping it mid-cast).
