Overview

Soul Linkers give up the ways of Taekwon Do in order to develop and refine their spiritual powers. Invoking the spirits of fallen adventurers with lingering regrets, they can bestow them unto other players to grant them special Spirit Link benefits. They are also able to use powerful single target magic, both offensively and defensively.

Compared to Wizards and Sages, they lack any area of effect spells, and cannot use their offensive spells against other players. However, Esma has the benefits of a significantly shorter cast time, better damage scaling compared to the Magician's Bolt spells, as well as Mild Wind, giving them access to almost all elemental types, notably including Holy, Ghost, and Shadow, elements that Wizards & Sages cannot access.

Spirit Link skills are what makes Soul Linker truly unique, giving them a supportive bent, much like a Priest. However, unlike the before mentioned universal buffs, Spirit Links are both class specific, and some of them are also build specific for that particular class. Despite that, they can easily provide a drastic increase in power in the right situation.

Soul Linkers have relatively low HP, but better SP than average. Despite the high SP pool, their spells cost a lot of SP, so INT is often a high priority. On the other hand, many skills do not have extensive cast times (usually at higher levels), resulting in a lower need for DEX compared to other magic-using classes. With some VIT and their defensive magic, notably Kaahi, coupled with Taekwon Kid's Tumbling, they can be surprisingly durable.

A unique thing about Soul Linkers is that they are naturally immune to Dispel.

Taekwon Kid Skills

With many of the skills from Taekwon Kid not being usable by a Soul Linker, there isn't a lot of meaningful choice to make when planning out the skills in your first class. Mild Wind is easily the most important thing to pick up, alongside Tumbling for defense, then followed by Leap which will allow the user to skip over walls in many maps as a powerful navigation tool. Finally, Sprint is mostly optional but useful for both convenient movement in long straight lines, and as an incredible boost in unarmed attack damage which is useful for reaching Soul Linker in the first place. If one wishes to level up in this manner without leeching, regular Taekwon Kid skill conventions apply.

Esma

Esma is an amazingly powerful Bolt type spell with many quirks. It scales both with the user's Base Level and MATK, eventually overtaking the Magician Bolt spells 100% MATK ratio, and combined with Mild Wind, lets the user to come out on top of any elemental matchup. Furthermore, its steep SP cost is eventually discounted with Kaina at higher levels.

However, it has a steep skill point prerequisite, needing both maxed out Estun and Estin, and requires an enabling spell to be case before it can be used (usually Estun). These factors mean that Esma Soul Linker builds often have a slow start, and their SP gear requirements can fluctuate wildly as they reach higher levels.

Spirit Links are powerful but niche buffs with a steep SP cost and a meager duration at first level, that significantly increase in duration and become cheaper to cast as more points are invested in them; their individual effects do not change with level, however.

Spirit Links are also not created equal. For example, the Knight Spirit covers only a very niche build for the Knight class, whereas the Assassin Spirit is much more universally useful as many Assassins use Sonic Blow extensively. With this in mind, coupled with the steep requirements of either the Esma tree or Ka- skill tree, it is often difficult to know what Spirit Links are worth investing in. In broad terms, if one has a party or guild they often adventure with, it is best to invest skill points with them in mind. The same can be said about other characters the player might wish to play.

Generally, combat focused skill builds can dip one point into many Spirit Links to increase their flexibility, whereas support builds can go for three points in order to sync up the buff with the duration of Blessing and Increase Agility. PvP orientated builds can go for full five point investments in order to keep SP costs down.

An in-depth overview of each individual Spirit Link and their applications can be seen below:

[Spirit Links- Click to expand/collapse]

<!-- -->
- Blacksmith Spirit - Powerful party-wide buff that applies regardless of weapon class as long as they're not ranged. Requires one point in Alchemist Spirit, but both are decent investments.

<!-- -->
- Star Gladiator Spirit - Very powerful to battle strong monsters with high DEF or FLEE, athough it requires the Star Gladiator to have nine points in Solar, Lunar and Stellar Courier.

<!-- -->
- Soul Linker Spirit - Broadens Soul Linker's applicability by letting them use powerful defensive buffs on other classes without the need for marriage. More useful on Soul Linkers who have invested heavily in their Ka- skills, especially Kaahi and Kaizel.

<!-- -->
- Assassin Spirit - Incredibly powerful as it doubles the damage of Sonic Blow.

<!-- -->
- Rogue Spirit - Matters more for Stalkers than Rogue. In PvM the increased movement speed and STR buff duration from Chase Walk are greatly appreciated, however. Until that point, it is mostly as a prerequisite to Kaupe.

<!-- -->
- Crusader Spirit - It only has a pronounced effect on dedicated Shield Boomerang builds, but it gives the Crusader a degree of power seldom matched by other weapon setups. One of the more specialized but strongest Spirit Links.

<!-- -->
- Knight Spirit - Incredibly niche, and a prerequisite to the hard to use Eske.

<!-- -->
- Bard and Dancer Spirits - Very powerful and universally useful; maxing this Spirit for the duration if it will see use is a good idea.

<!-- -->
- Hunter Spirit - Only affects specific Hunter builds, as Beast Strafing depends on the user's STR, which many Hunters forego altogether.

<!-- -->
- Super Novice Spirit - Mostly used out of the field to reset the Super Novice no-death bonus. Entirely skippable if you don't play or know someone who plays one.

<!-- -->
- 1st Transcendent Spirit - Powerful, but with its steep prerequisite in the form of five points spent in Super Novice Spirit, not worthwhile in a general sense.

<!-- -->
- Priest Spirit - Priests often have enough skills to cast in a party environment. Some might not even have Holy Light to use.

<!-- -->
- Monk Spirit - The SP cost reduction enables Combo Monk to spam their powerful abilities and even deal AoE damage with Raging Thrust. Furthermore, both this and Priest Spirit are prerequisites to the powerful Kaahi and Kaizel.

<!-- -->
- Wizard Spirit - Notably a huge Zeny saver for Fire Pillar Wizards. Also affects Safety Wall and Stone Curse.

<!-- -->
- Sage Spirit - Enables the Hindsight Sage build to shine on its own with a major increase in power to the skill. Also a prerequisite to the Esma tree alongside Wizard Spirit.

Esma

[Esma Build - Click to expand/collapse]

In general, Esma builds spend a majority on their points on the eponymous skill alongside Kaina, then spend their remainder of skill points in support skills such as Spirit Links or Ka- skills such as Kaahi or Kaupe. INT is the primary stat in order to increase outgoing damage, increase SP capacity and SP Recovery to fuel spellcasting. DEX is also used to cast spells faster. Finally, status points can be placed in AGI or VIT to increase survivability.

Pure INT/DEX

<!-- -->
- Example Skill Build

This Soul Linker variant focuses on pure damage output, relying on its party members or careful positioning to keep themselves safe. Skill points can be diverted from Eswoo to Spirit Links with consideration for who the Soul Linker usually parties with.

INT/DEX/VIT

<!-- -->
- Example Skill Build

This build diverts some DEX to VIT in order to be more durable, and focuses more on Kaahi in order to sustain itself. However, this requires more SP to sustain so one's gear should take that into account. Similarly to the above build, skill points can be diverted from Kaahi or Eswoo in order to nab more Spirit Links.

INT/DEX/AGI

<!-- -->
- Example Skill Build

This build is the greediest gear wise of all three, but combines low levels of Kaahi, high Flee and Kaupe to dramatically extend their SP sustainability, in particular because Kaahi still heals the user even on dodged or Kaupe-ed hits. Skill points can be diverted from Eswoo to Spirit Links, as usual. It is important to get the first level of Kaahi early on after maxing Esma, as with enough Flee, you can remove the need for HP restoring consumables entirely, making the levelling process much smoother.

Support

[Support Build - Click to expand/collapse]

Support Soul Linkers generally forsake combat potential to maximise their support potential.

WoE Support

<!-- -->
- Example Skill Build

This build focuses on WoE with Ka- and Spirit Link Skills. They get only a few to none Es- skills, as those are usable in PvM only. Their most important spells are Kaite, Kaupe for support, and Bard, Dancer, and Soul Linker Spirits for buffs. The rest are chosen from the remaining Ka spells. Assassin, Rogue, and Wizard Spirits are often preferable. Their leveling methods are either leeching or supporting parties with Kaupe, Eska/Eske and the Spirit Skills.

<!-- -->
- Example Skill Build

This build focuses solely on providing Spirit Link support to their allies, and has little to no combat potential on its own. Strength can be used over Intelligence or Vitality in order to streamline the Taekwon Kid leveling process, as leveling one into Soul Linker is quick and easy that way. Spirit Links are left at three points to sync up with Blessing and Increase Agility durations, though beyond that points are best spent at the player's discretion.

Ka- Support

<!-- -->
- Example Skill Build

This build focuses on being the receipient of Soul Linker Spirit and/or using the power of Marriage to bestow the Ka- skills to their allies, and has little to no combat potential on its own. Kaahi and Kaizel are among the most powerful to disperse among the party.

Melee

[Melee Build - Click to expand/collapse]

These builds utilise the Soul Linker's ability to equip Daggers, in particular, 1242.png Dagger of Counter, to provide melee combat potential while still having skill points to invest into the Ka- skills. Note that the below stat build assumes one is using a Dagger of Counter. If one still wishes to pursue this build while lacking the dagger, more points have to be diverted to DEX in order to gain enough accuracy to hit enemies, as typically the high CRIT rate of the Dagger of Counter removes the need for it.

Both these builds have identical skill point setups to the Support ones: the difference comes from stat points leveraged towards physical damage output with Mild Wind.

Equipment

Esma

[Esma Equipment - Click to expand/collapse]

Morpheus Set

Overall, the Morpheus set excels at providing a large INT bonus, a large SP pool increase, and uninterruptible spellcasting via damage (similar to the 4077.png Phen Card). If one is just starting out, the Morpheus Set is relatively cheap, and the individual pieces still remain useful even after the set is broken up. Better on the full DEX or VIT versions of Esma casters, as they don't have the luxury of avoiding spellcasting interruptions by simply dodging attacks as the AGI variant.

Pocket Watch Set

A straightfoward set that gives additional MATK and SP recovery. Do note that 2239.png Monocle [0] is incompatiable with some of the Headgear mentioned below, particularly 5177.png Mythical Lion Mask [1].

VIT

For VIT based builds, gaining higher DEF and MDEF can cause you to require less levels of Kaahi in order to sustain yourself, effectively serving as roundabout SP regeneration.

Skills

Skill Description Levels Type
Eska.png [Eska](Eska.md)
Force a monster into a status similar to Monk's [Steel Body](Steel_Body.md), in which Movement and Attack Speed is reduced, but Defense and Magic Defense will be temporarily enhanced. 3 Offensive
Eske.png [Eske](Eske.md)
Increase targeted monster's ATK 4x, but reduce its DEF by half. Following the casting of this skill [Esma](Esma.md) can be used for the next 3 secs. 3 Offensive
Esma.png [Esma](Esma.md)
This is a very strong bolt type spell that can change element of its attack depending on [Mild Wind](Mild_Wind.md). This skill can only be used within 3 seconds of casting any of the Spirit Link Spells, or after having cast [Estin](Estin.md), [Estun](Estun.md) or [Eske](Eske.md). 10 Offensive
Estin.png [Estin](Estin.md)
Push back a targeted monster 2 cells away. Only [Small](Small.md) sized monsters are damaged by this skill, which takes the elemental property of the [Mild Wind](Mild_Wind.md) skill if it is cast. At skill level 7, after casting [Estin](Estin.md) there will be a 3 second interval that will allow the casting of the skill [Esma](Esma.md). 7 Offensive
Estun.png [Estun](Estun.md)
Stun a monster by chance for 2 seconds. Only [Medium](Medium.md) sized monsters are damaged by this skill, which takes the elemental property of the [Mild Wind](Mild_Wind.md) skill if it is cast. At skill level 7, after casting [Estun](Estun.md) there will be a 3 second interval that will allow the casting of the skill [Esma](Esma.md). 7 Offensive
Eswoo.png [Eswoo](Eswoo.md)
Temporarily shrink a monster to reduce its [Movement Speed](Movement_Speed.md). [Boss](Boss_Protocol.md) monsters will only be shrunk for 1/5th of the normal skill duration. If this skill is cast on a monster that is already shrunken, the caster will be inflicted by the [Stun](Stun.md) status and the targeted monster will recover from Shrunken status more quickly. 7 Offensive
Kaahi.png [Kaahi](Kaahi.md)
Consume a certain amount of SP to restore HP each time an enemy uses a normal attack. Kaahi heals regardless of whether or not the attack hits. 7 Active
Kaina.png [Kaina](Kaina.md)
Increase Max SP and enhance the efficiency of the [Happy Break](Happy_Break.md) skill. At Base Level 70, this skill reduces the SP consumption of the [Estin](Estin.md), [Estun](Estun.md) and [Esma](Esma.md) skills by 3% in proportion to the skill level of Kaina. At Base Level 80, this SP consumption is reduced by 5% and at Level 90, it is reduced by 7% (for a total of 49% reduction). 7 Passive
Kaite.png [Kaite](Kaite.md)
Reflect most magic spells back at the original caster. Reflected Healing spells will not heal the original caster. The magic spells of monsters above level 80 or boss monsters cannot be reflected, although this skill has a 100% chance of reflecting spells from other players regardless of level. Does not stack with High Priest's [Assumptio](Assumptio.md) or Crusader's [Devotion](Devotion.md), but works with [Kyrie Eleison](Kyrie_Eleison.md) and [Kaupe](Kaupe.md). 7 Active
Kaizel.png [Kaizel](Kaizel.md)
Instantly revive a fallen character that will be in [Kyrie Eleison](Kyrie_Eleison.md) status for 3 Seconds upon revival. Level Up Angel

Taekwon Kids, Star Gladiators and Soul Linkers share a unique level up angel that provides the following bonuses when a new base level is reached:

  1. This is the only Spirit Link Skill that gives some buffs specific to the Transcendent class
