Vertical Fire Wall Guide
Image and Text Guide
Overview
Primarily a solo leveling and farming technique, vertical Fire Wall or "VFW" can be an essential tool for many Magicians, Wizards, Sages and Super Novice. It involves manipulating the shape of Fire Wall in order to maximize both the number of hits an incoming enemy takes from the spell as well as how long the monster is detained by the wall.
Shape
The first step to VFW usage is understanding the shape of Fire Wall. Fire Wall occupies 3 cells in a straight line, with the cell the spell is casted on as the center of those 3 cells. The position of Fire Wall relative to the caster is always predictable and can be controlled.
From the orientation of the default camera view (double right click to reset the angle of the camera), Fire Wall creates either a vertical, horizontal or diagonal (75° or 150°) line. Walls created in either the cell the caster is standing on, or on the line of cells that horizontally intersect the cell the caster is standing on will always be vertical. Walls created on the line of cells that vertically intersect the cell the caster is standing on will always be horizontal. Finally walls created on any line of cells that intersect diagonally the cell the caster is standing on will always be diagonal.
To better illustrate the above, please see the images below...

The above image represents the diagonal shape of Fire Wall when cast on diagonally intersecting cells as described in the text above
Using the Shape
With an understanding of how to control the shape of Fire Wall, now we can use this to our advantage against monsters.
The idea behind VFW is to lure enemies into vertical (relative to the enemy) Fire Wall line. We do this in three steps...
- 1. Get close enough to attract the attention of a hostile enemy, or attack a passive enemy with a quick spell like rank 1 Fire Bolt.
- 2. Create a vertical fire wall.
- 3. Walk to the cell row on the opposite side of the fire wall line relative to your enemy, going no further than 1 cell row away.
When done properly, the end result should look like either of the following
Any rotation of the above visual representations are fine, so long as the monster and the player are not on the same cell row or column when luring the enemy into the vertical wall.
This is incorrect
