Overview
The Alchemist is a class which optimizes Pharmacy and Homunculus, as well as various other potion-related skills. They are a class which work for the benefit of their friends and strike terror into the hearts of their foes (armor).
Jobchange Guide
See Alchemist Job Change Guide for detailed information.
Changing into an Alchemist from a Merchant requires the player to complete a number of tasks:
- Item Collection
- Written Test
- Transformation Experiment
After completing these tests, the player will be transformed into an Alchemist.
Builds
Check what each stat does before beginning to build an Alchemist. The following are general ideas of potential builds.
- As an example, feel free to inspect thisbuild in our calc. This build in particular can be cheap or very expensive. It's also recommended to be Biochemist to get better brewing chances.
- Keep in mind that the decision to go with INT or LUK for brewing largely depends on how you build your Marionette Control Performer and building the brewer accordingly. Some moments of planning are fundamental for this one.
This is one of the most common brewing builds. For leveling, options include using a
Marionette Control can be used in order to increase brewing success rates further.
Bio Cannibalize can also be used for leveling with auto-cast equipment such as
since Bio Cannibalize attacks count as your own.
This has one of the highest success rates for potion creation but requires a lot of leeching or a lot of AFKing with a Homunculus. LUK may be preferable to DEX as most Gypsies and Minstrels have high DEX but do not have any LUK.
Thus, when Marionette Control is used with this build, the Alchemist will receive a significant boost in DEX from the Gypsy or Minstrel, and the Alchemist's own LUK will further increase success rates for brewing.
AGI Battle Build
Calculator
High STR (remember to make the total a multiple of 10), high AGI, moderate or low VIT, and Moderate DEX. This is a soloing or Blacksmith party build which allows for easy soloing.
However, potions will not heal too well and HP may be lacking.
VIT Battle Build
Calculator
High STR (remember to make the total a multiple of 10), moderate or low AGI, high VIT, and moderate DEX. Get as much STR as possible and a small amount of AGI for some ASPD.

MVP Build
Calculator
High STR (remember to make the total a multiple of 10 and yes this is important), moderate AGI, moderate or high VIT/DEX. It is difficult to compete at MVPs with an Alchemist.
A Blacksmith is required to Adrenaline Rush.
Use an Axe for large MVPs and spam Mammonite. A very large amount of DEX is required to hit many MVPs. Being coated is also necessary at MVPs such as Eddga, to avoid having armor broken.
This build is not recommended, and works better as an INT/DEX/VIT Biochemist, using [Acid Demonstration] as main Attack with Homunculus positioning as tank or lure.
WoE Support
Calculator
Moderate STR, low AGI, high VIT, moderate INT, high DEX, and low LUK.

In pre-trans WoE, the main purpose of this build is to throw potions at guildmates and Acid Terror at enemies. The high DEX and VIT allows for fast casting of Acid Terror and high potion healing, respectively. Not much STR is really needed.
Equipment
Keep in mind that becoming Biochemist opens the door to better equipment choices.
The weapon used is primarily based upon one's build. For example, an Alchemist prioritizing AGI and ASPD should generally use Sabers. Those preferring to maximize damage are better suited with Axes. The following is a listing of the most common weapons and why they are beneficial.
Saber, a type of One-Handed Sword, is one of the most common weapons amongst battle Alchemists primarily due to the relatively low ASPD delay as well as the benefit of 3 slots while maintaining high ATK. The biggest drawback to this weapon is that the player will be unable to benefit from having a Blacksmith partner, which is relatively rare.
Because of the skill Axe Mastery, it is evident that one will be able to bring out optimal damage from an Axe. However, Axes have a large ASPD delay, which means they whack slow but hard.
On the positive side, players using Axes can not only benefit from Axe Mastery but also a Blacksmith partner. Similarly, Two-Handed Axe has the largest ATK of weapons forgable by Blacksmiths, making them the best choice for elemental weapons. However, the limitations of Card Slots and/or ASPD means players should really study these weapons before making a full investment.
| Weapon Name | Stats | Effects |
|---|---|---|
Light Epsilon |
||
Firebrand |
||
Ice Falchion |
||
Tomahawk |
|
The first three of the above weapons are beneficial for INT built Alchemists and Brewers.

Main Gauche[4], as a 4 slotted dagger has a good advantage over other 4 slotted weapons, it has less ASPD delay, making it the best option for having 4 cards with less ASPD delay.
Usually used by MvP Biochemists alongside 4x Cecil Damon Card to further reduce ASPD delay
(done in order to cast Acid Demonstration faster).
- This is particularly a good armor for those who have Priests because they can share the gear between characters while maintaining decent DEF.
- A readily available piece of armor which offers some of the best DEF. Players who plan on having their Alchemist as their main character should have one or two of these sufficiently upgraded and carded.
- The best option for Brewing Alchemist since it provides +1 INT. It has the same DEF as Chain Mail, and it weights considerably less. The drawbacks for this armor are the level requirement (Lv. 70) and the Class restriction, making it less versatile across Jobs.
- A Muffler is probably a player's first choice of a carded armor for the shoulders if and only if the player lacks the funds and has other characters. Mufflers can be worn by most classes. For optimizing DEF however, one should use a Manteau.
- Two good options for this slot are
Whisper Card and
Raydric Card.

Condensed Potion

Potion Math

Fame System
For Brewers there is a system in which players are ranked based on who can create the most potions.
- Rank Point +1: 3 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
- Rank Point +3: 5 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
- Rank Point +10: 7 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
- Rank Point +50: 10 Condensed Potions created without failure in a row.
Alchemist ranks can be checked via usage of the /alchemist command ingame. Potions made by an Alchemist/Biochemist who is in the top 10 list will receive a 50% bonus to their potency.
This does not apply to potions used via Potion Pitcher or Slim Potion Pitcher.
If 30 days pass without the ranker logging in at least once, they will be removed from the ranking list until they log in again. No points will be lost during inactivity. However, decay is always applied: once you become active again, decay will be applied retroactively for all inactive months.
Homunculus System
Refer to Homunculus System for more information.
Homunculi are pets that assist players in ways such as a support, an instant partymate, or a sacrifice for the player.
The player must go through the Bioethics Quest to unlock the appropriate skills required to create a Homunculus. After the quest, Bioethics will be available.

To call out a Homunculus, an Embryo is required.
These can be purchased from other Alchemists or self-made. In order to make an Embryo, an Alchemist must use the Skill Pharmacy with the following materials purchasable from the :

Once an Embryo is obtained, use the skill Call Homunculus to summon the Homunculus. Even though it is not completely proven, it is a popular "opinion" that the creator of the Embryo's stats plays in a role in the probability of summoning each Homunculus.
Keep in mind that Bioethics is the only quest skill. This means you'll need to invest Job Skill Points in the other Homunculus-related skills as you see fit. Plan accordingly.
